WORKING PROTOTYPE:
I was and still am quite happy that the final prototype worked as intended and is able the hold weights of up to 200 pounds.
The final prototype was created using Baltic birch plywood and door hinges. Using tools such as a scroll saw, a band saw, a chop saw, and a belt sander.
