CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Following the convergent-divergent design thinking, secondary research was first conducted to identify what make toys valuable in the eyes of children and the different market trends that exist within the toys market. From the research findings, ideations were conducted on potential design solutions using sketches and prototypes. Three potential designs were selected, which then was narrowed down to the final design.
For the final presentation, a large poster detailing the play pattern was created, along with a works-like model made mainly using a laser cutter and plywood.
INFOGRAPHIC ON TOY DESIGN:
An infographic was created in order to present key secondary research findings clearly and precisely.
FINAL DESIGN
At the time of this project, there was a strong market trend which shows market growth in games and puzzles. As technology becomes more and more prevalent, there was a demand for low-tech activities that bring families closer together. Recalling fun games nights I participated with my parents while I was in China, I chose this market trend as my main design direction for Chef Clumsy.
FINAL WORKS-LIKE MODEL:
To be able to demonstrate the entire play pattern during the final presentation, a works-like model was created using a laser-cutter, some plywood, and lots of toothpicks. Different interlocking joints are designed into the laser-cutting template so that no glue was needed for assembly. The playing cards that compliment the toy were also printed.
